The Rimonio brook area is a concentration of elements of natural and historical interest. Moreover it is a nodal point of intersection of trails in the municipality of Fosciandora area. One of the first to believe in the potential of this trial was our fellow citizen Enrico Fiori, who over the years, has rediscovered and made viable some abandoned stretches. In the course of 2020, the potential of the Rimonio area was also presented to the Fosciandora Municipal Administration by a volcanic and passionate naturalist scholar, Pietro Arena. This figure, well known in the speleological field for having decisively contributed to the opening to tourists of the Equi Cave in Lunigiana, of which he had been in charge for a long time, had settled in Garfagnana for some years. He proposed the idea to develop the Rimonio area and open it up to schools, visitors, hikers, etc., offering both his collaboration and experience. The Municipal Administration immediately showed interest in the project and set about obtaining the first authorisations and funding.
Unfortunately, Pietro Arena passed away prematurely in December 2021. However, as early as 2022 the Municipal Administration of Fosciandora carried out the first works in this area with the installation of didactic billboards. A future ambition is to create a theme park, where stones, water and imagination will be the main characters. This is a tangible way to bring people closer to nature and also to remember Pietro Arena's intuition and passion.
