The village of La Villa as we know it today, seems to date back to the XVth century. Ceserana's Saint Mary’s church, already mentioned in some documents before such period, should have been located in Ortomaggi, a little bit over the car park in Ceserana, site of a medieval village. Later, probably concerned about hydrological problems, it was decided to built the church on a higher hill, near locality Ferraio or Ferraggio. In 1467 the Dominican priest Matteo of Pontremoli visited the village and in the records of this Pastoral visit the church is cited in this way: Chiesa di S. Marie de Feraggio in comuni Ciciorane.
The church is dedicated to Saint Mary of the Assumption.
Meanwhile, the village has grown around the church on the hill over Ceserana and the distance between the two villages is now hardly visible.
The Park is named After Giovanni Baroni, mayor of Fosciandora in the first years after the War (1946-1956) who played a very active role in the hard rebuilding process.
