Fosciandora - Pieroni Park

The origins of Fosciandora – Village history
audio guide

Tradition has it that the town of Fosciandora was founded by three brothers from Gubbio in search of adventure. They were called Simone, Leonardo and Raffaele. They were the founders of three families, respectively, that are still present in the area: the Simonetti, the Nardini and Lunardi and the Raffaelli.

At first Fosciandora was part of the town of Ceserana. Then in 1799 things change with the Cispadana republic. The Garfagnana was divided into three cantons and Ceserana, La Villa and Fosciandora formed a Municipality of their own, becoming part of the canton of Trassilico. In 1804 a new law unified these three small towns below the Fosciandora Community diction, adding also Bargecchia and Sillico; the latter were then separated by decree of 1808. In 1846 the town of Fosciandora took its current geographical composition, with the addition of Riana, Treppignana and Lupinaia.

This Park is named in memory of Antonio Pieroni, mayor of Fosciandora for many years; precisely, it was the first mayor after the Liberation, from April 1945 to March 1946, and then from 1956 to 1975.
